Floating Transportable ‘Olympic’ Stadium

FLOATING- TRANSPORTABLE ‘OLYMPIC’ STADIUM AND COMPLEMENTARY FACILITIES FOR MEGA-SPORT EVENTS (1980+2006).
Sport industry and ‘mass entertainment and recreation through sport’ is in its globalization era; The uniqueness of the Olympic legacy and spirit is in its ‘total rejection of discrimination on any possible ground’.
And still there is a gross discrimination on the economical basis of countries fit to host the mega-sport events, Olympics included, which could be perceived as a critical flaw in the Olympic charter and movement.
The suggested idea-concept is to realize and construct a modular array of floating, transportable, state of the art Olympic facilities, capable of traversing the oceans, which could be borrowed-rented by the interested hosting nations of mega-sport events, Olympic Games’ inluded, for the duration of the event, to be moved into the proximity of major port cities and reasonably protected coastal marine environments.
All the modular array, when moved, bound and connected by a flexible bridge network, will perform as a functional urban working environment.
The suggested fleet should be realized as an economically viable enterprise, which should generate reasonably sufficient income from its mega-sport activities, to cover and maintain its operation.
The idea was presented in many ‘structures and sport related conferences’ and received wide public coverage and featured in a masters degree work of Anna Sorkin, supervised by the author and Y.Rosenfeld (2004-), at the Technion, l.J.T.
